Things to consider when buying gadgets/devices from a different Country or Region

Most of those who frequently travel to different countries often find vast differences in the price of certain products or services. Be it higher or lower, especially when you convert the amount into your local currency. Same is true with gadgets and devices. Due to this price difference, the unwary tourist often gets enticed into buying products that are not commonly found or much expensively sold in their country. He grabs the opportunity
without evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of the item. Only to be disappointed on the gadget purchased.

However, have we ever stopped to consider, Why such a difference in cost? Here are some items to consider when buying gadgets/devices from a different country or region:

1. Will the gadget work in the country I'll be using the device in? Let's look at things in a different perspective, some gadgets were meant to be only released in certain countries due to their specific functions and features. Gadgets are usually customized/set to the country they were released in. So do your homework, and check the specs. before even considering buying the gadget. Otherwise, you'll end-up with a cheaply priced gadget that you can't fully make use of.

2. What is the Voltage Rating? Is the voltage rating auto-volt from 110-220V or not? Can I use The gadget in my home country without the use of a transformer? Using a transformer would make the set-up of your gadget bulky.

3. Know your warranty. Let's face it as good is the quality of your gadget, sooner or later it would eventually breakdown. So it is important to know the warranty entitlement of your gadget. Will I be able to claim for warranty in my country? Is there a service center near my area?


As good a device is, you should always be a cautious shopper. Investigate and research the device before making the purchase.
